CS gas canister found by child
There have been calls for an investigation into how a three-year-old child allegedly found a CS canister in Co Tyrone this week.
According to a local newspaper report, the toddler found the device which was lost by a police officer during the course of a disturbance in the Springhill Park area of Strabane.
The canister was handed in to the newspaper’s office and returned to police.
A PSNI spokesman confirmed that “an item of equipment was lost and appropriate measures were taken by the officer concerned”.
DUP councillor and Assembly member Allan Bresland said: “This will be raised at our District Policing Partnership meeting. I think we need to hear all the facts surrounding this case. I know there have been several confrontations in Strabane and Sion Mills recently, and I would have concerns about police resources.”
