'Doubt remains over Robinson role'
PETER Robinson has been urged to publish legal advice concerning his alleged role regarding his wife's financial affairs.
Sir Christopher Kelly - who is overseeing an inquiry into MPs' expenses - was speaking on Wednesday ahead of appearing before the Assembly's standards and privileges committee at Stormont.
Peter Robinson resumed his role as First Minister earlier this month after temporarily stepping aside in an attempt to clear his name following allegations made by the BBC Spotlight programme.
The programme reported that Iris Robinson obtained 50,000 from two developers to help her teenage lover Kirk McCambley open a cafe business.
It claimed Mr Robinson did not alert the relevant authorities as required under the ministerial code.
A probe by leading solicitor Paul Maquire QC cleared found that no breach had occurred, however, the legal advice has not been made public.
Speaking to the BBC, Sir Christopher said doubt over Mr Robison would remain until the details were put into the public domain
"I think there must remain a doubt until the reported investigation is published," he said.
"This is an area where transparency is important.
"There is no obligation, as I understand it, to publish reports of this kind, but I certainly think everyone would be well advised to publish."
Separate investigations by the police, Castlereagh Borough Council, Westminster and the Assembly's standard and privileges committee are ongoing into the Iris Robinson scandal.
