'Great interest' in Best's former home
A "GREAT deal of interest" has been expressed in the childhood home of footballing legend George Best.
A spokesman from Templeton Robinson, the estate agency handling the sale of the house, said more than 10 viewers have looked at the property since it was put on the market at the end of August.
The modest terrace home – at 16 Burren Way in east Belfast – was initially valued at 165,000.
A spokesman for Templeton Robinson said: "A lot of interest has been shown in the property.
"We have had a couple of offers over the asking price which is 165,000.
"I cannot tell you what the offers have been because we have a bidding situation.
"I can say it is looking good for the vendor.
"Some offers we had came from people wanting to make an investment in an east Belfast property, but the main ones came from fans of the late George Best."
The former Manchester United player's address was the home of his 88-year-old father, Dickie, who passed away earlier this year.
The property has succeeded in generating high interest, despite the housing slump, because of the George Best factor.
Best is likely to have played football in the back garden and even during the prime of his short career often returned to his home to visit his family.
Earlier George's sister Carol McPherson, who shared a bedroom with her famous brother, expressed sadness that the family's long association with the property was coming to an end.
"It was a very happy home and my father lived there for nearly 60 years, but we all have our own houses now and it was a stipulation of dad's will that the house should be sold on his death," she said.
Property agent Templeton Robinson described the house as a "piece of Northern Ireland history".
