A LEADING investigator from the Northern Ireland Paranormal Society, Darren Ansell, participated in a live web chat on the News Letter website on Thursday.

Ulster folk got into the Halloween 'spirit' and were brave enough to ask Darren a series of questions.

Topics covered included a reported ghost sighting in a Co Down hotel, the best places to witness paranormal activity in Northern Ireland and a detailed explanation of the workings of NIPS.

A coinciding poll revealed a majority of participants believed in the paranormal.

The Northern Ireland Paranormaal Society (NIPS) was formed in 2005 and Darren and his team have been investigating strange phenomena across the Province and in the Republic.

Specific investigations listed on their website include a strange human form at Crawfordsburn Country Park, a growling noise at Richhill Castle and incidences of prevalent dark shadows at Ballyboley Forest near Larne.

Spraking afterwards, Darren reflected on a "fascinating experience".

"The level of participation shows me that there is a good interest in the paranormal," he said.

"Obviously some people or for it and others against but it proved to be a good topic of debate."

"It was great that people threw questions at me because it keeps me challenged on what I should be believing as well," he added.

Darren and the activities of the NIPS team will feature as part of a special six-part BBC series in January next year.
