Hijacker tried to drag woman from car
A SPATE of car hijacking incidents in Belfast continued over the weekend, including an incident in which a man attempted to drag a woman from her vehicle.
Friday night’s attack in the Grosvenor Road area was the ninth in the city in less than two weeks.
At about 9pm the man tried to pull the female driver from her car. When she refused to get out he took property from the rear of the vehicle and made off.
The woman escaped uninjured.
The man was described as being in his early 20s and wearing a dark hooded top with a light scarf covering his face. He also wore jeans and white trainers. Police have appealed for witnesses.
In another hijacking incident earlier on Friday night, a man was forced into the back of his own car by a gang in north Belfast.
He was accosted in the Eskdale Gardens area at about 7.30pm and driven a short distance before being assaulted and dumped from the vehicle.
The car was discovered on fire a short time later in the Rosapenna Street area.
Police said the man was not injured.
They again appealed for witnesses to the incident.
Alliance MLA Anna Lo expressed her outrage at the latest incidents and called on police to divert more resources to prevent such crime.
She said: “I am outraged at the people who are carrying out these car hijackings. I cannot comprehend the mindset of those who would carry out such a vicious crime.”
