Homes evacuated in city gas leak alert

A NUMBER of families have been evacuated from their homes after a carbon monoxide leak in Belfast.

The Fire Service have said they were called to My Lady's Road in the east of the city, after residents reported rumbling noises underneath their homes and reported a smell of gas.

It has been reported that a number of people, including firefighters, have received medical treatment.

Firefighters who recorded carbon monoxide readings in some houses, immediately began an evacuation of the area.

Contractors are investigating and have also found electric cables on fire.

A 50 metre exclusion zone has been put in place between Cherryville Street and London Road.

Police have warned drivers to expect traffic disruption in the area.
