House damaged in pipe bomb attack

FAMILIES have been evacuated from their homes following a pipe bomb attack in Co Tyrone.

Up to 50 people were temporarily relocated from their homes for several hours in the Windmill Court area of Dungannon after a device was thrown into a house in the vicinity.

The incident occurred shortly before 1am on Sunday.

It is being reported that the device caused substantial damage to the kitchen and living room of the property as well as almost blowing the front door from its frame.

No-one was in the house at the time of the attack, although it is believed that someone does live in the dwelling.

Army technical officers were deployed on the scene for a period of time.

Police have appealed for information.
