Ice skating champ ties the knot

ONE of Northern Ireland's most successful ice skaters was married on Saturday.

Five times British Senior Ladies’ Cham-pion Jenna McCorkell, 21, tied the knot with Belgian fellow skater and European bronze medallist Kevin van der Perren in St Patrick’s Church, Coleraine.

Jenna, who is now based in Belgium, said the day went smoothly and they had even arranged a photo opportunity with their photographer to commemorate the North West 200.

“Kevin is just motorbike mad, so with the North West 200 on the same day as the wedding, we thought it was the perfect chance to indulge in his passion and to have some memorable shots from the day.

“We also had pictures taken at Dunluce Castle and White Rocks beach so we should have plenty of photographs to remember,” Jenna said.

With the 21-year-old ranked eighth in Europe and Kevin fifth in the European Figure Skating Cham-pionships this year, both had to clear their hectic schedules for their nuptials.

“May was the only time we could really have the wedding as September to March is competition season, with usually all of the summer to train.

“We leave for our honeymoon to Los Angeles and California on Thursday and we will simply be relaxing during the two weeks we have.

“It will then be back to work again when we return, so I am definitely making the most of it.”
