'Inspirational' Molyneaux honoured
FORMER Ulster Unionist leader Lord Molyneaux has been honoured with a reception in Belfast City Hall to celebrate his 90th birthday.
The peer celebrated his birthday on August 28 quietly at home but received hundreds of cards from all over the world.
Last week, deputy lord mayor of Belfast, William Humphrey, arranged a reception in city hall to mark the occasion.
Former Archbishop of Armagh Lord Eames, Orange Grand Master Robert Saulters, former South Belfast MP Martin Smyth and enterprise minister Arlene Foster were among those who attended.
Mr Humphrey paid tribute to Lord Molyneaux as "inspirational".
"Lord Molyneaux gave great leadership to Northern Ireland, during extremely difficult times in our history," he said.
"He was, and remains, a true gentleman and committed unionist – a truly inspirational figure and a great Ulsterman. I am privileged to be able to call Jim a friend."
