THOUSANDS of Ulster motorcycling enthusiasts converged on Belfast over the weekend for the Adelaide Motorcycle Festival.
The King’s Hall show brought together many of the major motorcycle and equipment manufacturers under one roof to kick-start the season for local bike fans.
Around 15,000 people attended the event in 2011 and the organisers expect to report similar figures for 2012.
Officially opened by current British Superbike champion Tommy Hill, the Saturday and Sunday festival was hailed as a huge success by organiser Billy Nutt.
“The dealers and exhibitors have been well-pleased with the numbers coming through the doors, and the visitors all seem to be getting some good bargains and going out with a smile on their face, so I’m very happy,” Mr Nutt said.
Now in its 17th year, the event, which had previously been staged at the Odyssey, has gradually increased in size over the years, as Mr Nutt explained.
“The Northern Ireland people just love their motorbikes and we have nearly all the main motorcycle manufacturers represented in the hall.”
This year’s show — billed as having “the widest possible appeal” — featured an auto jumble as well as vintage bike displays and stunt shows as part of an outdoor itinerary of additional attractions.
Although the show is a business opportunity for the exhibitors and traders, it’s also a social gathering which creates a major buzz amongst the motorcycling public.
“Everybody had been cooped up all winter and this gives them something to go to where they can meet up with all their friends and talk about the coming season,” Mr Nutt added.
“It’s a big social occasion for the motorcycling community.”
