LATEST: DUP confirm that Iris will leave as soon as possible
Iris Robinson could stand down as an MP and MLA for Strangford as early as next week, the DUP has said.
Senior party officers met last night to discuss this week's revelations
surrounding the First Minister's wife, which has dominated both local and national headlines
Speaking to the News Letter today (SAT], a party source said the Strangford MP and MLA will stand down "as soon as resignation letters are received and processed."
It is understood the party will appoint someone to replace her as an MLA as soon as possible.
However, there is not expected to a by-election for her Westminster seat because a general election is likely to be held before a formal writ can be moved.
