Londonderry man tells of China earthquake experience

LONDONDERRY man Gavin McCloskey has told of how Monday's earthquake in Sichuan province was "terrifying".

The Waterside man said he fled from a 20-storey building in the city of Chengdu, 60 kilometres from the epicentre of the earthquake.

He said: "When we got out, there was dust flying up from the building and we thought the building was going to collapse."

At least 12,000 people are feared dead in the disaster. The death toll is expected to rise sharply.

Mr McCloskey said that at first he hadn't realised it was an earthquake.
