Man killed in crash after his lorry overturned
A 29-YEAR-OLD man killed when the lorry he was driving overturned on the Manoo Road in Kesh on Saturday morning has been named as William Hughes.
The incident happened shortly before 11am and police are investigating how the lorry came to lose control on a stretch of road in Fermanagh which has a history of accidents.
The victim's family is well known in the Trillick area.
UUP MLA Tom Elliott, who knows the Hughes family, said he was saddened that the area's roads have claimed another life.
"It's a tragedy for any family to suffer the loss of a loved one and the community as a whole is shocked at Mr Hughes' death.
"He came from a large, well-respected local family and his tragic death leaves a lot of questions about how this happened when there was no obvious cause," he said.
"A lot of resurfacing work has been going on in recent times not far from where this accident happened and the road has been improved from a safety point of view, but it still seems to be a bit of a black spot for accidents."
A passenger in the lorry, a 60-year-old man, was taken to Erne Hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Police in Enniskillen are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 0845 600 8000.
