Man is charged with attempted arson attack on Orange Hall

A 24-year-old man has been charged with an attempted arson attack on an Orange Hall in Portadown.

Gareth Breen, 24, from Ballyoran Park in the town was charged today in Lisburn Magistrate's Court in relation to an incident at Clounagh Orange Hall on Friday evening.

He faces three charges, including trespass with intent to do unlawful damage, destruction of two wooden boxes from an arch and the attempted destruction of Clounagh Orange Hall by fire.

The investigating police officer told the court she believed she could connect him to the charges.

Mr Breen's defence lawyer said his client was employed in a food processing factory as a service man and was not applying for bail.

Mr Breen has been remanded in custody for a hearing by video link at Craigavon Magistrate's Court on Friday.
