Movilla High School classes back

MOVILLA High School in Newtownards has today resumed classes.

It follows almost three weeks of strike action by teachers affiliated with the NASUWT union.

They had walked out after a dispute over an alleged assault on a teacher by a pupil.

On Thursday, Education Minister Caitrona Ruane praised the pupil's parents for helping to bring about an end to the strike.

"They have shown enormous courage and flexibility," she said.

"He will not be back at the school on Monday, but I'm identifying an independent advisor as a matter of urgency."

An agreement was signed at the Labour Relations Agency after negotiations between the NASUWT union and the South Eastern Education and Library Board.

These centred on how the union would provide information to an independent assessor appointed to look at the needs of the pupil at the centre of the dispute.
