Nolan still the 'biggest show in the country'
BBC Radio Ulster has once again come out on top in the Northern Ireland listener stakes according to the latest figures.
An average of 498,000 listeners tune in each week to hear Radio Ulster but the others would appear to be catching up.
The often controversial Nolan Show can still lay the ‘biggest show in the country’ claim, with his morning slot attracting 139,000 listeners.
Figures released by RAJAR, the listener research body, show that Cool FM is attracting listeners at a faster rate than Radio Ulster and the Downtown/Cool FM combined figure has reached 537,000 listeners per week.
Cool FM’s station managing director, Mark Mahaffy, is delighted with the progress which he puts down to the importance the stations attach to ongoing feedback from their audience.
“This is a superb set of results which reflects all the hard work that has gone on behind the scenes. Recently, we have put a lot of effort into refining our playlists to ensure our music is exactly what our audiences want to hear.”
Three BBC NI shows attract over 100,000 listeners on average per week. Apart from Nolan, the two other high-performing broadcasts are Gardeners’ Corner on Saturday mornings with 108,000 listeners, and Good Morning Ulster with 102,000.
Relative newcomer to the airwaves U105 has also continued to grow, recording a 26 per cent rise in their weekly audience up to 136,000 listeners.
