Pair in court over PSNI murder bid
A FORMER independent republican election candidate is one of two men charged in connection with a weekend terrorist attack.
Kevin Barry Nolan, 32, from Main Street, Blacklion in County Cavan appeared in court in Dungannon on Wednesday in connection with an attempt on the life of a policeman in Garrison, Co Fermanagh on Saturday evening.
Also appearing was Gerard James McManus, 26, from Fern Hill in Letterkenny, County Donegal.
Both men are charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life.
Mr McManus is also charged with using a firearm to resist arrest.
Both were remanded in custody following a short hearing.
Three other men were released without charge on Tuesday evening.
Police have appealed for more information concerning the Fermanagh incident. They to hear from anyone who saw a blue Vauxhall Astra, registration UBZ 6206, in the Garrison area on Saturday.
Dissident republicans have been blamed for the attack.
A 400lb bomb also partially exploded outside the headquarters of the Policing Board only hours later.
