'Paisley could return as MP'
IAN Paisley has indicated he will defend his seat at the next General Election.
The former DUP leader told political journal, the House Magazine that he is considering standing once more for Westminster as an MP for North Antrim.
In the publication, the veteran MP said: "I think I would stand as an MP again. My wife is in the House of Lords, so I'll leave her to deal with the noble lordships."
It had been widely tipped his son, Ian jnr, would defend the seat for the DUP held for almost four decades by his father.
Mr Paisley relinquished his role as First Minister last year and is longer involved in frontline politics.
Earlier this month, TUV leader Jim Allister, who is expected to fight for a seat in the constituency, said he was unsure about what his former party colleague was planning.
The 83-year-old said that Mr Allister was "very welcome to come and get a hiding in North Antrim".
However, a DUP spokesman said that no selection meeting had yet been held to decide who will stand for the party in North Antrim at the next election, which must be called within the next 12 months.
