Parking fees for 'Titanic' tourists
PLANS to charge tourists to view the 'birthplace of the Titanic' in Belfast have been slammed as "detrimental".
NI Science Parks (NISP) which owns the site, at Thompson's Dry Dock, said they are going to introduce charges from next month for tour buses, cars and taxis visiting the dock.
Invited guests, business users and visitors taking a guided tour will not be charged but all other visitors to the site may be charged up to 10 for parking.
Taxis not taking a tour will be charged 10 for entry and unscheduled visits by buses and coaches will result in a 50 fee.
Alliance MLA Sean Neeson said: "If we are to develop tourism in Northern Ireland we need to maximise the potential of the Titanic Quarter."
Mr Neeson, who sits on the National Historic Ships Committee, described it as a "counterproductive move".
NISP will be installing entry barriers with car parking ticket dispensers at all entrances and exits.
