Peer turns back on Irish team

OUTSPOKEN Ulster Unionist peer Lord Laird has expressed delight at the Scottish rugby victory in Dublin on Saturday.

In what was a disappointing farewell to Croke Park for Ireland, they were narrowly defeated 23-20 by their celtic neighbours but Lord Laird had no sympathy for the men in green.

"I, along with many former Ireland rugby supporters, am delighted at the win for Scotland. I was a proud supporter of the team until the IRFU banned this country's national anthem and Union Flag at Ravenhill," he said.

"The Irish anthem is played for games in the Republic so there is no reason why our own anthem can't be used at Ravenhill."
