Pensioner threatened with iron bar

AN elderly lady has been threatened with an iron bar during a robbery in her south Belfast home.

Police are confirming that shortly before 9.30pm on Monday, two men entered the home of the woman, aged in her 70s, at Carmel Street.

Initial enquiries suggest that the men, one armed with an iron bar and both with stockings over their heads, threatened the householder and told her to stay in a bedroom.

The room was searched and a handbag stolen.

Although the pensioner was left shaken by the incident, she was not injured.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a woman in her 80s was robbed at her flat in the lower Ormeau area of the city.

A PSNI spokesman said thieves entered the flat of the pensioner sometime in the early hours of Tuesday and took items from her home while she slept.

Detectives have appealed for information.
