PICTURE GALLERY: Somme Remembrance
THE 93rd anniversary of the Battle of the Somme has been marked in Belfast.
Politicians, dignatories and representatives from various organisations, including the Orange Order, laid wreaths at the war memorial at Belfast City Hall.
Thousands of soldiers from both the 36th (Ulster) and the 16th (Irish) Division died fighting Germany during the First World War in 1916.
Newly-installed Lord Mayor Naomi Long paid her respects on behalf of the council.
Various anniversary events are being held across the Province.
The longest running Somme parade takes place in east Belfast on Wednesday evening.
Orange Order members and bands will hold a short act of remembrance at the War memorial on the Belmont Road.
Services will also take place in Limavady and Larne on Wednesday.
