REVIEW: Susan Boyle tops bill in Belfast
SINGING sensation Susan Boyle took to the stage in Belfast as part of the Britain's Got Talent tour.
And Ulster fans were not disappointed as the star performed to a packed Odyssey Arena.
Thousands of concertgoers experienced first-hand the voice that has made her an unlikely phenomenon.
Her ten minutes on stage included performances of Memories, from the musical Cats, and I Dreamed A Dream from Les Miserables, the song that has become most associated with the singer.
The sold-out show also featured the nine other finalists from the hit talent show Britain's Got Talent.
Among the performers were saxophonist Julian Smith and comedy dance act Stavros Flatley who delighted an audience keen to see the reality TV stars in real life.
Dance troupe Diversity were the overall victors of Britain's Got Talent, coming out tops in the phone vote to choose a winner.
But it was runner-up Susan Boyle who became a showbiz sensation with her performance on the programme.
The 48-year-old spinster from Scotland may not have looked like a future star when she first appeared on the programme, but her exceptional voice made her an audience favourite across the world.
Yet fame took its toll, with Susan being admitted to the Priory Clinic reportedly suffering from exhaustion and subsequently missing dates on the Britain's Got Talent tour.
Hopes that she would take to the stage in Belfast were raised after the star appeared in Dublin on Tuesday night, performing at the O2 Arena.
After that concert, a spokesperson for the singer said: "Susan has missed some shows on the tour, but is delighted to be in Ireland."
Even as late as teatime yesterday promoters were reluctant to say whether Susan would take to the stage in Belfast, saying that all the finalists were scheduled to appear.
The tour will now go on to Birmingham and Cardiff before concluding in Bournemouth on Saturday.
