ROSIE SHEDS SIX STONE, AND HER DIABETES TOO

LISBURN woman Rosie Cummings has astounded doctors after she shed six stone and saw her Type 2 Diabetes disappear.

Rosie lost an incredible six stone within a year when she started attending the Rosemary Conley Diet & Fitness Club and at her annual check up at the Diabetes Clinic in January she was amazed to be told her blood sugar and cholesterol levels have returned to normal.

Rosie has transformed from wearing size 20-22 clothing and is now a petite size 8 after dropping six stone from her 17 stone 2Ibs frame.

38-year-old Rosie explained: "I joined the Rosemary Conley Diet & Fitness Club on November 8 2007 and on November 15 2008 I had achieved my six stone target."

Rosie had gained weight during her 20s and despite having always wanted to lose weight and trying various diets, finally realised that she had to do something about her weight problem.

"I had always wanted to lose weight and had joined various clubs but had had no major weightloss" she said.

"I was diagnosed diabetic in late 2006 but it didn't really impact on me. I didn't change my diet, but I was just so out of breath and so sluggish."

Rosie decided to take the initiative and join the Lisburn branch of the clubs, which are unique in offering a combined diet and exercise class with a fully qualified instructor, after she took a family holiday to Puerto Rico in Gran Canaria in 2007.

"It was on that holiday I decided to take my weight problem seriously. I felt very self conscious and found my joints were very painful when I was walking. I realised I had to do something about it and I've never looked back. It's the best decision I've made."

As well as shedding the pounds, Rosie has also improved her health enormously, no longer having to take cholesterol tablets and her blood sugar readings have returned to normal.

"The doctors were absolutely delighted," she said. "They said it very rarely happens."

Rosie said that she has transformed her diet from "chips with everything", to a healthy eating regime.

"I used to have chips with everything. I would have no breakfast and then at lunch time I would have chips, I lived on them. Now I have Weetabix for breakfast, healthy meals and in the evening I'll have a healthy living chocolate mousse which takes away the sweet cravings."

Describing the speed of her weight loss Rosie said: "I surprised myself. I had lost one stone just after Christmas and I thoight 'great, I can do this.

"I've gone from a size 20-22 jeans to a size 8, I never thought I'd see the day. It's not even a diet, it's three meals a day and two snacks, so you are by no means hungry. I would definitely encourage others to join the class."

Class Instructor Eleanor Harris said she was delighted with Rosie's achievement.

"I am just amazed and delighted at how well she has done" Eleanor said. "Rosie is an absolute example to people how she has overcome a big health problem and a big weight problem. She has lost six stone in a year and is maintaining it beautifully. She is an amazing member and I am delighted for her."
