Security alerts in Londonderry

DISSIDENT republicans are being blamed for separate security alerts across Londonderry.

A hijacked milk lorry has been left abandoned outside Strand Road police station while another vehicle has been reportedly left outside Bishop Street courthouse.

The top deck of the Craigavon Bridge is also closed.

Army technical officers are currently examining all three incidents.

DUP MP Gregory Campbell condemned those behind the alerts.

He told the BBC: "We could be facing the city centre being gridlocked for a number of hours on what would otherwise be a very busy day.

"I understand this is frustrating for people, but the ultimate responsibility lies with those who hijacked the vehicles and placed them where they did."

Last month, a controlled explosion was carried out on a van abandoned outside Bishop Street courthouse.

Windows at a nearby deanery were damaged in the blast.
