Soldier targeted in bomb attack
A SOLDIER has escaped injury after being the intended target of a booby-trap bomb.
The device was found on the driveway of the middle-ranking officer's home in Bangor on Wednesday morning.
It is believed the bomb fell off the soldier's vehicle.
Army technical officers carried out a controlled explosion and are currently examining the Chatworth area.
Condemning the perpetrators, DUP MLA Peter Weir said: "It is apparent that the criminals responsible for this latest outrage are intent on murder. These terrorists have no support in the community and are beneath contempt.
"At this time the thoughts of everyone go out to the soldier and his family who have been callously targeted by these lawless criminals."
The incident bears all the hallmarks of an attack by dissident republicans.
Earlier this year, PSNI officer Peadar Heffron was badly injured after a bomb exploded under his car in Randalstown.
