Tall Ships all set to depart Belfast
NORTHERN Ireland's biggest ever event comes to its penultimate and most dramatic end as the magnificent Parade of Sail leaves the banks of the River Lagan after 12 noon today.
Over forty ships from the Tall Ships fleet will be mustered into position that will allow viewing from both sides of Belfast Lough.
The organisers of the Belfast Maritime Festival expect hundreds of thousands to say farewell to the 1,000 plus crew as they head to a variety of ports across Europe.
Those wishing to view this spectacular sight can choose from a variety of locations on both sides of the Belfast Lough. The flotilla will begin to depart from the Port of Belfast at 12.30pm approximately and it is estimated that it will take an hour and half for the entire fleet to depart.
The first vessels, which should experience a good westerly breeze, are estimated to pass Bangor at around 2pm.
Due to the expected numbers police and Road Service advise spectators travelling to view to key vantage points to give themselves plenty of time for their journey.
Travellers are also advised to use Translink and Northern Ireland Railways services, along with checking the checking www.translink.co.uk .
Special traffic management arrangements will be put in place along the key coastal roads, but car users should expect delays and disruptions on both sides of Belfast Lough.
Car drivers are asked to follow traffic directions, be considerate where they park the vehicles and follow the rules of the road.
