Taser victim charged with assault
THE first person to be stunned by a Taser gun in Northern Ireland has been charged with threats to kill and assault.
The weapon, whose use has been a source of controversy, was used last month when PSNI officers were called to an incident in Londonderry.
Police personnel were forced to activiate a gun to subdue a 37-year-old man who had locked himself and his two children in his Galliagh home.
The victim was later detained under the Mental Health Act.
On Tuesday, the police confirmed the individual has now been charged with three counts of making threats to kill and one of common assault.
He will appear in the city's Magistrates Court on September 15.
Specialist PSNI officers been trained in the use of the electric stun guns that hit a human target with a disabaling 50,000 volts.
The introduction of the weapon has been opposed by human rights experts.
