Taxi driver shaken by hijacking ordeal

A taxi driver was forced to give up his vehicle to a hijacker after being threatened with a handgun, police have revealed.

He picked up the male culprit in the Shankill area of Belfast on Sunday evening and was taking him to Dunmurry when the incident happened some time between 11.15pm and 11.30pm.

The hijacker forced the driver to get out of the car – a blue Mazda – and then made off in it.

The vehicle has not yet been recovered.

Police, who are appealing for anyone with information about the incident, said the taxi driver was not injured, but was left shaken.
