Teenager rescued in trafficking probe

A TEENAGE girl - who is a suspected victim of human trafficking - has been rescued in a police operation.

The female - believed to in her mid-teens - was discovered by officers as part of an investigation targeting cannabis cultivation, money laundering and identity card offences on Friday evening.

The two males, aged 33-years-old and 35-years-old, were arrested as a result of a search of a house in Greater Belfast.

Police also recovered suspected false identification documents and several thousand pounds of cash.

The girl was rescued and is presently receiving support from specialist agencies, according to a police spokesperson.

The operation, which has been running in various part of Greater Belfast, North Down and Downpatrick since September 2009, has resulted in the closure of a number of cannabis factories and seizure of cannabis with an estimated street value of 2.2 million.

The two arrested males are continuing to assist police with their enquiries.
