Thousands enjoy Last Saturday parades

MORE than 30,000 Sir Knights and accompanying bandsmen took to Ulster's streets for the traditional 'Last Saturday'.

In the last major Loyal Order parade of the year, more than 400 Black preceptories and 350 bands were on the march in Crossgar, Lisburn, Killylea, Ballymena, Castlerock and Castlederg.

The largest parade took place in Crossgar with over 100 preceptories stepping out, while the smallest gathering took place in Castlederg.

Thousands of spectators lined the routes of all six venues to enjoy the festivities.

While the weather was generally fine, occasional showers ensured brollies as well as bowler hats were required.

The 'Last Saturday' parades are considered the most dignified in the loyal order marching calendar, with high quality flute, accordion, pipe and silver bands a main feature.
