Two men injured in iron bar attack

TWO men sustained head injuries following an overnight attack in east Belfast, police have confirmed.

Three men are believed to have assaulted the pair at an address in the Parklands complex in the Knocknagoney area on Wednesday evening.

The assailants were armed with an iron bar and a wooden bat, according to a police spokesman.

Following the attack, both occupants were taken to hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Alliance MLA Naomi Long condemned the brutality of the incident.

"The incident was made all the more traumatic because the men were attacked in their own home - a place where people should feel safe.

"The fact that the men were hit over the head with the iron bars illustrates the sickening intent of the attackers," she said.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who was in the east Belfast area at the time of the incident.
