Wilson demands prep say

FINANCE Minister Sammy Wilson is seeking legal advice about forcing Caitriona Ruane to bring her plan to scrap funding for prep schools to the Executive.

Only issues that are deemed to be controversial are usually brought before the Executive and the education minister denies her prep plans fall into that category.

Mr Wilson has written to Ms Ruane asking that she bring the issue in front of other ministers.

A spokesman from the department of finance told the News Letter: "Finance Minister Sammy Wilson's view remains that this is an

issue that should be brought before the Executive because of its contentious nature and recent events only reinforce that."

But a spokesperson for the Department of Education said: "This is a matter which lies within the area of responsbility of the Minister of Education."

All the political parties except for Sinn Fein backed an SDLP amendment to a motion on Monday in the Assembly callingfor the education minister to consult with representatives from schools to find an agreed way forward for prep schools.
