YOUR VIEWS: Can counselling change homosexuals?

DUP MP Iris Robinson has sparked a row over gay rights in a radio interview.

The wife of the new Northern Ireland First Minister claimed that counselling can change homosexuals.

Mrs Robinson was speaking in the aftermath of a homophobic attack in Newtownabbey on Wednesday which left a gay man seriously injured.

She told of how she knew gay people who had turned around to become heterosexual.

The Strangford MP said: "I have a very lovely psychiatrist who works with me in my offices and his Christian background is that he tries to help homosexuals trying to turn away from what they are engaged in."
