The leader of the Alliance Party group on Belfast City Council has lamented the loss of trade for city centre shops as a result of Sunday’s republican parade and counter-demonstrations.

Maire Hendron spoke of her relief the violence surrounding last year’s parade was not repeated.

But, in a statement, she added: “It is frustrating that many of our city centre businesses have lost a large amount of trade due to the disruption from this parade and protest.

“This has been a largely peaceful parading season, but I hope that all sides will work together to minimise disruption to the public and our businesses in future years.”
