The mother of the late Upper Bann MP Harold McCusker, Lily McCusker, has died just months after celebrating her 100th birthday.

Mrs McCusker – who was also the grandmother of Craigavon mayor Colin McCusker – grew up on the family farm at Moore’s Hill, Milltown, between Waringstown and Donacloney.

She went to school in Waringstown before starting work in the linen industry.

Mrs McCusker married her bus conductor husband Jim at Great Victoria Street Presbyterian Church in Belfast.

They set up home in Lurgan’s Wellington Street, Lurgan and had two children – William Ronald and James Harold. However, tragedy struck when her husband died of tuberculosis in 1947.

She was 33 at the time and had the two boys, both under 10 at the time, to bring up.

The family suffered a second tragedy in 1990 when Harold died of cancer aged 50.

Mrs McCusker’s funeral service will take place today at Malcolmson’s funeral parlour in Lurgan.

She is survived by son Ronald, daughter-in-law Irene, daughter-in-law Jennifer, grandchildren Graeme, Moore, James, Janice, Elaine and Colin, as well as 15 great grandchildren.
