After 12 years on the West Bay of Portrush, the annual airshow will be moving east for 2014.
Coleraine Borough Council has taken the decision to use the East Strand, saying the new location will coincide with other initiatives – including a shorter, but more exciting, flying programme and additional entertainment at ground level.
When this year’s event takes place on September 6 and 7, it will also have a new name.
Organisers say the Air Waves Portrush programme will include “children’s entertainment, exhibitions, live music, fireworks and one-off spectacles” against a backdrop of the Giant’s Causeway and Dunluce Castle.
“Thousands of photographs of the coastline will get shared on social media and the internet and help raise the global profile of the seaside town,” said the council.
Coleraine council has also teamed up with managers of the Waddington airshow, one of the largest in the UK, “in order to create an exciting display programme and develop commercial opportunities”.
