IRA victim Sammy Brush, who originally said he could not support the Maze peace centre project, has changed his mind after a meeting with fellow DUP member Jeffrey Donaldson.
Mr Brush, who survived a shooting by the IRA, said that after seeing the plans with fellow Dungannon councillor Frances Burton, he felt “reassured regarding the development”.
Mr Donaldson said he will work to ensure the development at the Maze site is to the satisfaction of the victims.
In an interview earlier in the week with the News Letter Mr Brush said he “would be very hard to convince” on the plan.
He said: “I think it’s in the wrong place; victims were spread right over Northern Ireland and beyond whereas most of the terrorist prisoners were located at that location.
“It’s the people who are proposing this who need to do the convincing, not the victims.”
