ATO tasked to pipe bomb incident

Army Technical Officers and police have been at the scene of a pipe bomb explosion outside a house in north Belfast.

It is believed the device was thrown at a property in Sheridan Street, in the New Lodge area, sometime overnight however the incident was not reported to police until 9.45am this morning.

Damage was caused to a window frame. The occupants who were at home at the time were not injured.

A number of nearby homes are evacuated at present while the remnants of the device are made safe and recovered for examination.

Detective Inspector Nigel Snoddy and has appealed for anyone with information to contact detectives from Reactive & Organised Crime at Musgrave Police Station by calling 101.
