Attempted murder charge after Portadown knife and hammer attack

A man has been charged with attempted murder following a knife and hammer attack in Portadown.

The 31-year-old was detained at the scene of the incident in Abercorn Park around 11.55pm on Wednesday by police who arrived within one minute of the emergency call.

At the time, the PSNI said they found a 34-year-old man “who had been attacked with a knife and hammer,” suffering injuries to his head and shoulder.

The detained man has been charged with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence.

He is due to appear at Craigavon Magistrates Court on Friday, May 6.
