A FAILURE to confirm a venue for the opening ceremony for the World and Fire Games which are being held in Northern Ireland in less than six months, has been described as “embarassing”,
Alliance Culture spokesperson Anna Lo MLA was speaking after it emerged that the Ravenhill rugby stadium will not be available due to refurbishment works.
“I am frankly astonished that the Department of Culture did not ensure the availability of Ravenhill. We now have six months to find a suitable venue,” said the south Belfast MLA.
“This was our chance to show the world that we are capable of hosting such a large event, but yet we now going to be urgently running around looking for a venue for the opening ceremony.
“The Department must now take urgent action to recover from this embarrassing news.”
