Motorists travelling on the M1 into Belfast each morning are used to long tailbacks, but it was a rush hour with a difference on Thursday morning.

Traffic came to a halt after three cows were spotted walking on the Belfast-bound carriageway at Ballyskeagh sometime around 7am.

The animals were soon moved off the motorway by police, but the incident led to longer tailbacks for motorists travelling into the city.

In a tweet at 7.42am, Traffic Watch NI confirmed the animals were now safely in a nearby field.
