Elderly man robbed near south Belfast park

A muscular man has targeted a elderly motorist in what is believed to have been a knife robbery in south Belfast.

The incident happened on Monday, April 25, and police have now released details of it in a bid to trace the thug responsible.

The said that at about 1.35pm, as the elderly victim was getting into his car near Crescent Park in the Botanic district of Belfast, a male who is described as being “in his mid-30s, of muscular build, with short brown hair and wearing a dark blue jumper and blue jeans”, got into the front passenger seat.

He threatened the man with “what is believed to be a knife and demanded that he hand over his wallet”.

A struggle then ensued with the assailant grabbing the wallet and making off from the scene in the direction of University Street.

The driver of the car was not injured during this incident, however he was left very badly shaken.

Constable Adam Scott would appeal to anyone who was in the area at this time and may have witnessed this incident or anyone who has any information to contact Police at Lisburn Road on the non-emergency number 101.
