A former manager of a west Belfast care home appeared in the dock of Belfast Crown Court alongside his sister yesterday on charges linked to falsifying documents relating to money which belonged to elderly residents.
Patrick Doak, 50, from Lagmore Meadows in Dunmurry, was the registered manager of Owenvale Court Residential Home – also known as the St John’s of God Residential Home – on the Springfield Road when the alleged offences were committed over a period spanning from September 2006 to January 2010.
Doak faces a number of charges including false accounting and fraud by abuse of position, and has denied all the charges against him.
His sister Bridgene Kelly, who worked in the home as a care worker, has been charged with forgery and false accounting. The 55-year old, from Linden Gardens in Belfast, also denies the charges.
Doak is accused of asking staff to effectively “cook the books” after a financial discrepancy of £1,700 was discovered ahead of a financial inspection that was due to take place in February 2010. At hearing.
