The funeral of the Presbyterian minister who died in a weekend diving incident will take place in his own church in Co Tyrone today.
Reverend Dr Stewart Jones, who was in his 50s, was airlifted to Sligo hospital on Saturday after getting into difficulties off the Donegal coast.
The funeral service for the popular clergyman – described as a service of thanksgiving for his life, faith and ministry – is to be held at Donemana Presbyterian Church at 2pm.
A qualified and experienced diving instructor, he was also an instructor in emergency first response.
Rev Jones was married to Patricia and leaves three adult daughters.
He was in the water about 200 metres off St John’s Point when it is thought he was struck by a freak wave.
Another diver who was with Rev Jones suffered shock and hypothermia and was also airlifted to hospital.
A spokesman for the coastguard at Malin Head said Rev Jones was “a very experienced diver, having dived frequently all along the Donegal coast over the past 10 years”.
