Home targeted in arson attack

A mother and two children had a lucky escape after their home was targeted by arsonists in the early hours of this morning (Monday, February 8).

Wheelie bins outside the house at Drumellan Gardens, Craigavon, had been pulled up to the front door and set alight.

The incident was discovered around 4am when the woman was woken by a smoke alarm.

She tried to exit the house with her two young children through the front door but her way was blocked and had to exit at the rear of the house. A neighbour was at the front door attempting to tackle the blaze.

A police spokesman said: “Police in Lurgan are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fire in Drumellan Gardens.

“Around 4am on Monday, 8 February, police received a report of two wheelie bins on fire. NIFRS attended and dealt with the fire.

“Enquiries into this incident are ongoing and police would appeal to anyone who has information that may assist their investigation to contact them on 101, quoting ref: 97 080216.”
