I want united Ireland, says RC primate Eamon Martin

Archbishop Eamon Martin, primate of all Ireland, stressed that he only supported peaceful attempts to bring about that goal.

In an interview with Dublin magazine Hot Press, the Londonderry-born senior cleric said: “I do believe that Ireland should be one.

“And I would like to work for that, and continue to work for that, by peaceful means and by persuasion, recognising that there are many people on this island who do not want that. At no point whatsoever would I have believed in the use of violence in order to achieve that.”

The archbishop also spoke favourably of how the border has become less visible over recent decades, partly due to the EU.
