Ulster folk braced themselves this evening as an amber weather warning was issued.
Winds of up to 80mph have been forecast for later tonight.
A Met off spokesman said: “The amber wind warning runs until midnight on Wednesday.
“Tomorrow there is a yellow weather warning with gusts expected of around 60mph. The gusts could he higher on the coast.”
In the early hours of today heavy snow fell in Tobermore, Draperstown and Maghera in Co Londonderry.
Snow and ice in north Antrim made driving conditions difficult.
The Roads Service said it used snow ploughs to keep some routes clear and has gritted the main roads, but some minor roads are extremely icy.
