Loyalists have held a St Patrick’s Day flag protest outside Belfast City Hall.

The protesters attached flags to the gates of City Hall, where hours earlier thousands of people had gathered for a St Patrick’s Day parade in the city centre.

The protests originate from 2012 when Belfast City Council decided to restrict the number of days on which the union flag is flown at the City Hall.
