An early morning fire at a bar in Lurgan town centre has gutted the premises.
Roads adjacent to the Manhattan Bar at Church Place in the Co Armagh town were closed yesterday.
A PSNI spokesman said the fire started at 5.20am.
According to one councillor at the scene, the DUP’s Phil Moutray, the Manhattan bar has been left gutted by the fire, although he added the flames did not appear to have spread to neighbouring buildings, and praised the emergency services for helping to tackle the incident.
“It’s a three-floor building,” he said. “The damage does seem extensive. The roof has been completely incinerated.”
Having spoken to officers at the scene, he said there are fears for the safety of the structure, which stands not far from Shankill Parish Church, and warned this could impact on the whole town.
“There’s going to be extensive traffic disruption over the next day or two,” he said.
A PSNI spokesman said the fire is under investigation and inquiries are continuing.
Anyone who has any information about this is asked to contact police on the new non-emergency number 101.
